Almost in his nineties director Frederick Wiseman in the running for the Leone d’Oro with the documentary Ex Libris – The New York Public Library.
A three hours and a half documentary inside the New York Public Library that will be released in early 2018 with I Wonder Pictures, discovering one of the biggest cultural institutions in America.
For Wiseman this will be the first participation to a festival, after receiving the career Leone d’Oro in 2014, an honorary Oscar and numerous awards for his forty-one documentaries.
In recent years Wiseman had focused particularly on historical American institutions such as Central Park and Washington’s National Gallery. In this new documentary, the result of one hundred and fifty shooting hours, the director gives a more profound dimension to this place, his social and community vocation, the activities and services offered, the staff’s dedication, the attention to the poor and the immigrants who actively participate in free classes and lessons.
