Paramount Television, Anonymous Content, and Smokehouse Pictures will produce the new Catch-22 TV series, and Sky Italia is among its co-producers.
The shooting of the series will begin in May and they will take place in Italy, between Rome and Sardinia, while it is set to be broadcast in 2019 by Sky Atlantic. The plot is based on the homonymous anti-militarist novel by Joseph Heller, known in Italy as Comma 22, a novel that, despite being published half a century ago, has kept all its value and its relevance intact. The story is set during the Second World War and tells of a young American aviation bomber who tries to get a leave using the Catch-22, an article that protects the mentally impaired by exempting them from flight missions.
Among the executive producers, it is important to underline the presence of George Clooney, who will be both directing and acting in the series, together with his partner Grant Heslov. The two already achieved very good results in 2013 with the production of Argo, which received an Oscar’s award for Best Picture. Another director involved in the realization of the series is Ellen Kuras, famous for the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. “It’s really exciting to be able to work with Sky Italia and bring Catch-22 to the small screen. It is a formidable partnership at the service of this classic work of literature “, said Clooney, asserting his commitment to this project.
