On the eightieth anniversary of Cinecittà, Studios Director General Giuseppe Basso explained to ANSA current initiatives and future goals: “ we’re out from the bad period, the one from 2008 to 2014, and hopefully we will soon announce some important news on studios and sector regulation”.
The main innovation is the return of Cinecittà under state control. All will depend on the agreements reached by majority shareholders, but Basso is rather optimistic:” if things move forward, the projects could soon be implemented“.
“Incentives for big productions have worked well” Basso added, “our studios are still used also by foreign productions, besides Italian ones. We are implementing an investment plan in order to enhance our structures”.
Big productions already underway should not be forgotten: the second season of The Young Pope is expected for the end of the year, while works for the series Diabolik are continuing, despite rumours about their interruption. “We did not receive any communication on their cancellation”, said Basso, “it is an important production, for Sky, and it requires a long time to be completed.”.
