The Covid-19 epidemic and the consequent lockdown in March inevitably impacted the proceeds of Mediaset in the first half, but already in the second half an improvement is expected.
As in other sectors and for other operators, the consequences of the lockdown have been felt: The net revenues of Mediaset in the first half of 2020 are 1.16 billion, compared to 1.48 billion in the first half of 2019. This is the result of the slowdown in advertising sales in Italy and Spain. In a note released the group points out that the impact of security measures has been strongly mitigated by cost containment measures.
In particular, comparing the data between the first half of 2019 and 2020, in Italy there is a drop in revenues from 1 billion to 791 million, while in Spain from 482 million to 375 million.
However, it should be noted that in the first two months of 2020, before the lockdown, Mediaset’s revenue from advertising sales was a positive 2.1% more than the same figure of the previous year, confirming the extraordinary nature of the Covid-19 event and of the resulting situations.
The Mediaset Group expects the second half of the year to bring back gradually improving results and the consolidation of the general economic situation, provided that a new health situation does not require further containment measures.
