The award ceremony of MIA|MERCATO INTERNAZIONALE AUDIOVISIVO took place yesterday. During the cerimony, the prizes of this sixth edition were distributed on the eve of the closing.
To introduce the awards Lucia Milazzotto, Market Director, together with Chiara Sbarigia, APA General Manager and President of APA Service, and Mina Larocca, General Manager of ANICA.
The ceremony was held in the setting of Palazzo Barberini and was streamed on the MIA DIGITAL platform.
The EURIMAGES CO-PRODUCTION DEVELOPMENT AWARD for MIA|Film Coproduction Market projects is awarded this year to DALVA by Emmanuelle Nicot, produced by Julie Esparbes (Hélicotronc, Belgium) and Delphine Schmit (Tripode Productions, France).
A special jury has proclaimed EBBA by Johanna Pyykkö (Norway), produced by Verona Meier (Ape&Bjørn), winner of ARTE KINO INTERNATIONAL PRIZE, a prize of 6,000 euros with which ARTE intends to support the development of a project at MIA Film Coproduction Market.
The winner of the VIACOMCBS INTERNATIONAL STUDIOS AWARD – a division of ViacomCBSNetworks International – is MISS FALLACI TAKES AMERICA, produced by Minerva Pictures and Redstring. Jaime Ondarza (Executive Vice President and General Manager South Hub, ViacomCBS EMEEA) awarded producers Gianluca Curti and Cosetta Lagani for Minerva Pictures together with director and author Alessandra Gonnella. The jury also decided to award a special mention to CULT, produced by Notorius Pictures and created by Francesco Patierno and Sergio Nazzaro.
For the third consecutive year, National Geographic returns to sponsor the prestigious NAT GEO Award for Best Pitch, confirming MIA|DOC’s vocation to identify projects capable of combining great artistic and productive qualities and significant commercial potential. This year’s winning documentary is: DARKSIDE, THE QUEST FOR DARK MATTER DETECTION by Matias Guerra and Matteo Corbi.
MIA 2020 also hosts, as usual, the CARLO BIXIO AWARD, promoted by APA, RAI and RTI, and realized under the patronage of SIAE; the three winners are TANEEN by Greta Frontani and Elisa Orrico (Carlo Bixio Award for best subject); Il Caso Serena Mollicone by Matteo Bianchi and Raffaele Grasso (Carlo Bixio Award for best series concept).
Società Cordusio, which this year supports the initiative, awards two thousand euros and the plaque “Cordusio per i Giovani” to Non chiamateci influencer by Susanna Ciucci, Ilaria Polimeni and Elettra Sofia Mauri.
Also this year, Regione Lazio has awarded the LAZIO FRAMES AWARD to a work in the sections of MIA – What’s Next Italy, GREENlit and Italians Doc It Better, whose content, productive impact, possible international developments and the involvement of local resources can best represent the productive potential of Lazio. The Award was won by La verità su La dolce vita by Giuseppe Pedersoli, produced by Arietta Cinematografica (Gaia Gorrini).
Among the titles in the category C EU SOON to compete for the SCREEN INTERNATIONAL BUYERS’ CHOICE AWARD, win ex aequo DARK HEART OF THE FOREST (Le coeur noir des forêts) by Serge Mirzabekiantz (Belgium, France) produced by Hélicotronc (Belgium) and Sacrebleu Productions (France) and THE PENULTIMATE (Den Næstsidste) by Jonas Kærup Hjort (Denmark, Norway) produced by Rikke Tambo Andersen (Tambo Film, Denmark) and Gary Cranner (Chezville, Norway).
