Il Toronto International Film Festival ha annunciato la selezione completa dei programmi di Gala e Special Presentations della 47esima edizione, che si terrà dall’8 al 18 settembre.
Tra i titoli più importanti annunciati figurano “Women Talking” di Sarah Polley e “Empire of Light” di Sam Mendes. Tutti questi film saranno proiettati nella sezione delle presentazioni speciali di alto profilo, che comprende anche le anteprime mondiali già annunciate di “The Fabelmans” di Steven Spielberg, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” di Rian Johnson e “Bros” di Nicholas Stoller, oltre a diversi film annunciati nel calendario del festival. Anche l’Italia fa capolino nella sezione Gala, con “Il Colibrì” diretto da Francesca Archibugi e tratto dall’omonimo libro di Sandro Veronesi vincitore del Premio Strega.
Quello di Toronto è uno dei più importanti festival autunnali e, assieme alla Mostra di Venezia, rappresenta un trampolino di lancio importante per premi prestigiosi. Infatti, molto spesso il film vincitore del premio del pubblico si ritrova tra i nominati dell’Academy.
Proprio dopo l’anteprima mondiale a Venezia, transiterà dal festival canadese anche l’ultimo film di Darren Aronofsky The Whale, girato durante la pandemia e interpretato dalla star degli anni ’90 Brendan Fraser. Stesso percorso per The Son di Florian Zeller, The Banshees of Inisherin di Martin McDonagh e The Eternal Daughter di Joanna Hogg.
Direttamente dall’ultimo festival di Cannes, tra gli altri, compare nel cartellone la Palma d’oro Triangle of Sadness del regista svedese Ruben Östlund.
